Create a folder, right click on it, SHARING: follow the instructions.

simond--You could Zip the folder and password protect it. Of course those who you want to have access would have to know and remember the password. (See info in Help|Password in WinZip, for example.)

Works for XP-home too but you gotta work a little harder.

Boot to safe mode and logon as Administrator. The various security options will be available then and changes you make (like sharing stuff) will be there when booted into normal mode.

Well, I checked and I am defined as the Admin but perhaps I just don't have the settings correct - also, I seem to remember turning off the menu (when booting) and can't seem to find it again to turn it back on. -Bob

As an alternate, you can use the caclc command from a command window. eg,

cacls "full path to file or folder" /E /G username:F (Gives Full access)

cacls "full path to file or folder" /E /G username:N (gives No access)

There are other switches that can give other discretionary permissions. This command does the same thing as the GUI version that you are having trouble finding.

Bob, Just as an afterthought, if you're running the FAT32 file storage system, none of the security features mentioned above are available to you.
