How to kill this virus??

the virus will pop up an window saying that the machine will shut down in one minute. I downloaded the patch from the microsoft for xp long time ago, but I dno't it anymore and also forgot where to download it again. Can anyone help me find where to download the patch for xp. Thanks!!!

sounds liks a sasser worm.. you can go to trendmicro.com and do a free online scan to clean it or panda.com will work too

This patch would be available at the windows update site. If you already installed it, reinstalling it is not a fix. You have something else
However if you have Service Pack 2 for XP installed, the patch would not be necessary.
One thing comes to mind on this. It is possible that you have XP set to restart [default setting], whenever a program(s) has an error.
But, it is not a bad idea to do the online virus scans Firedancer has posted.
