    Hello all

I am very frusturated with the following problem:

My computer will always crash when certain programs are running. The programs are Internet Explorer, Winamp, FarCry, Quake III arena (only in multiplayer mode).

    I have tried everthing including:

    -reformating
-verified that it is virus, spyware free
-unistalling video card and sound card drivers and then reinstalling, also tried updating drivers

Nothing helps. Then i heard about Dr.Watson which can log Windows crashes. I located the file and found many instances of the following errors under IE and my other mentioned programs:

    -Application exception occurred
    -Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)
-Symbol file could not be found

How can i find out what this means? I suspected my video card was to blame as i used to use a ATI 9200 and i never had these problems. Then i changed to an ATI 9600 and sometime after i had some problems but they seem to be getting more frequent!

    Help!

saskgui - Welcome to the Board :)

The interpretation of dump files (*.dmp) is a very complex business requiring an intimate knowledge of the guts of Windows. Unfortunately our one BBS member who can interpret thes logs is unavailable at present.

The closest we can get is to refer you to ....

Troubleshooting Windows Explorer Errors - see part way down the page for instructions to debug the dump file.

Have you looked in Event Viewer immediately after a crash for more clues as to what may have caused it? Double click on any message to open and on the icon below the up/down arrows to copy to clipboard and paste here if relevant.

In cases like this it is always a good idea to check out your RAM - Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool

If you still have the old video card does refitting it cure the problem? - if so this points to a problem with the new card/drivers.
