I have the mouse set to wake the computer from standby in teh device manager, but for some reason, when the computer is on standby, it won't wake until I press the power button. Not sure what else I need to do....

The computer is Windows 7; an HP p6650z or something like that. USB mouse, not wireless.

Thats normal. Mine does the same thing. If you leave the the computer idle for a certain amount time you have to press the power button. It's like a Security feature. Does it ask you to login again? Mine does.

I think I see what you mean. I can't do that from my laptop, either...

I think what I've been doing is simply turning on the monitor with a movement of the mouse, but not waking the computer itself.

Try this, go to Control Panel, Power Options. Click on "Change Plan Settings" next to your Preferred Plan. Then select "Change Advanced Power Settings" In the list of options click on the + next to "Power buttons and lid" In there you should be able to set the laptop to wake when the lid is opened.

Sorry if this doesn't work but I have no Win7 laptop to try it on.

In my two laptops when I lift the lid it wakes the computer but I still have to sign in. Mine I have to swipe my fingureprint. Yes markmadras that should work but you should control panel\power options might be easier.
