    Hi all.

I'm having a small but annoying problem. Whenever I want to edit a musicfile's properties (like the name of the artist or album) I can't because it says the file is in use when I want to save the changes. It's not like I'm listening to the file at the moment and after rebooting nothing changes. The weird thing is that Windows Media Player is inside of the file's properties and starts to play when I open the properties. so I guess that's what keeps the file in use. Any of you ever seen this and know how to get rid of it? Here's how it looks like:

Hmm. Ill take a swing at this. I have WMP10 and i dont have that tab. It looks to me like you've picked up a shell extension that does that for you.

In this page, youll find directions for using shellexview. You should focus on types: Property Sheet and Column Handler. Its probably going to be a property sheet, but might be both. Report back and let us know.

Thanks a lot JoeHobart, you pulled it off. :D

I downloaded and ran ShellExView and first disabled all non-MS extensions to see if it worked and the WMP tab was gone. Then I looked for the extension that was the actual cause of this and this is the one:

    Extension name: ShellExtensionPropSheet Class
    Type: System
    Description: MediaView Extension (ShellExtension)
    Version: 1,0,0,4
    Product Name: MediaView Extension
    Company: SoftTech InterCorp Corporation, http://www.stintercorp.com
    My computer: No
    Desktop: No
    Control Panel: No
    Filename: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ShellExtension.dll
    CLSID: {A464F9AE-3108-4A4B-AA37-F7546589D961}
    File Created Time: 21-9-2002 16:08:56
    CLSID Modified Time: 1-2-2005 0:01:29
    Microsoft: No
    File Extensions: -

I took a look at their site and I see I have downloaded and installed their program "ImageConverter.exe" once. So that MedieView extension must have been installed with it, causing WMP to climb into the musicfiles' properties. Seems very odd to me but it's the only thing I can think of.

I guess I'll just keep this file disabled. Do you think it's safe to remove that .dll file?

thats hard to say. I would RENAME rather than DELETE it. You may find that it has supporting functionality the rest of the program requires.

Personally, i'd just leave it, youve got the shell registration disabled, its not causing you any harm at this point.

You're right, I'll just leave it there. I've tried to run that image converter and it was still all functional. Thanks for the advice. ;)
