    Hi,

I uninstalled windows defender some time ago. I didn't realize the signitures had their own separate listing, otherwise I would have uninstalled them first.
Anyway, they are listed in the control panel, when highlighted there is no option to remove (unlike the rest of programs listed). Short of reinstalling windows defender, is there a fix or a registry hack to get this off the list?

I too have Defender but no signature thingie....If you click in it you should see a "remove" button...But, you should click on it and see if there is a help option to confim who or what it is and make certain you really need to remove it.

All my other software has the option to remove but not the Windows defender signatures. I believe this was put in my control panel when I was having trouble updating signatures and had to download and install them manually.

I decided to search the registry for listings of windows defender (yes I backed it up first). It is no longer listed in the Control Panel/add/remove.

    did they look like this?

That's pretty strange to have data with its own uninstaller. There is a download from MS to cleanup the installer. On my Vista machine every time I ran a certain program it asked me if I wanted to install it. Turns out I had to run the MS installer cleanup and delete the entries for those programs. They got cross-linked or something. In any case here's the link to the MS cleanup download. You can read and see if it sounds like what's going on with your machine:

I have the windows install cleanup utility. Silly, I didn't think of using it. It would have been interesting to see if the Defender signatures were listed there. I did get it out of the add/remove program list using Regedit.
I followed that up with RegSupreme Pro.

The Add/Remove Program Cleaner 2.0 looks easy enough. I D/L it for future use. Thanks.

Just for interest sake, where is the specific entry in the registry for the add\remove program list?
