When I loaded windows xp I found that my program easy cd creator was incompatable with windows 98 and After obtaining a program, that was compatable some of the old files are still in the registry, How can I get rid of these files. I would like to avoid doing a complete unistall reinstall. Have sought local advice but no solutions. I am not that knowlegable on computers and am not comfortable messing with the registry. I saw an article on this but don`t remember and looked complicated with all the hkey directions. what do I do?
    Thank You.

Woody, Steve is right on the money w/ his advice. There is way too much pre-occupation these days w/ the registry. Some of the fixes or tweaks recommended are unnecessary and in a case like your situation where your pc is performing fine without crashes/ errors, there is no obvious need to fiddle w/ the registry.

One wrong inadvertant deletion of a registry key could render your OS inoperable. If you are not computer savvy or experienced, messing w/ the registry is definitely not recommended.

It isn't that the files are stored in the registry, they are stored on your hard drive. These files have registry entries pertaining to them.
The uninstall, reboot and then install is the best advice I can think of to give, as this takes care of the registry and the files on the drive.

Oh how I WISH THAT WERE TRUE

But it also depends on the program ( software ).

I have to ride the same train going in the same directions as Maverick on this one.

Also one should become familiar with System Restore before even THINKING about messing with the registry.

The above does not seem to make much sense.

Are you using XP or 98 ?

Handling the Reg is a bit different. 98 does not have System Restore. It does have SCANREG /RESTORE though. Which uses the RB00X.cab files in the C:\Windows\Sysbckup folder.
