marrisldm: The usual arrangement is a phone line goes into your modem, a cable goes from your modem to your router, and another cable goes from your router to your computer. If that's your setup, remove the router cable from your computer, then remove the modem cable from your router and plug it into the appropriate port in your computer. That puts the modem's signal directly into your computer. Get back to us with your results, good or bad.

If you are talking about putting the network cable from the cable modem into your computer yes.
If you are talking about putting the phone line from the phone company into your computer - do NOT do this as it will not work and you may fry your computer.
If you are talking about putting in the phone cable from a cable ( not phone ) company phone service I do not know. As well the connections between an ethernet cable ( the router or cable modem box) cables is slightly larger than the phone company company jack. They look similar but are not the same.
Do Not plug in the telephone jack into an ethernet jack.
If your computer does have a modem as well as an ethernet jack you could perhaps get dial up aol . I do not know what the rules are - i.e. if you have a broadband aol account will they provide dial up coverage on the broadband account ?
