We have a webapplication which captures the drive and installed applications of the client machine when user browse the website. And this information will be stored in the database on click of submit by the user.

As an enhancement, IPaddress of the user should be captured.
    1) Based on the IPaddress, we need to capture the the geographic location of the user. Could you please guide what could be the possible solutions for this?
    2) Using the IPaddress, is it possible to capture the folder/file information of the client machine i.e.
    a) How many files present in client machine (say PDF, XLS etc)
    b) When the files has been last accessed? etc...

For 1: Have a look at GeoIP

No idea about 2, you probably need to run a Java app or something.

If a user's system allows you to gather the sort of information you are looking to gather, it would be wide open to all sorts of abuse. HTML and Javascript won't let you gather this level of information for this reason. A Java or ActiveX application could, but I for one would be very nervous of letting a web app gather that information on one of my systems.
