I am attempting to reinstall XP Home on my backup drive, but, after going through the first set-up stage, and the computer restarts, a window comes up saying there is an error and I should clean the CD. I cleaned the CD, but it still shows an error at that point. Is there a good way to clean the CD that will eliminate this problem, or is there another way to get this installed, or should I just clone my other hard drive? The CD is in good shape, though there are some very minor scratches on it.

Can you borrow another Windows XP Home CD just to see if the same issue appears?

If you have a clone image backup you could use that to simplify the problem.

    kind regards,

I'm not aware of someone who might have a CD of the XP Home Upgrade I have. I could do a clone, but I'd prefer a clean install.

I couldn't find either WINXP.exe or WINNT.exe on either of my drives, even when I used search, so that isn't an option. They may have been removed previously while cleaning my computer, but thanks for the suggestion.

Thank you for all the helpful hints, but my son, the rocket scientist, always seems to come up with obvious simple solutions to everything. He told me to put the CD into my DVD drive rather than my CD drive. When I did that, the installation continued without a hitch. I guess there must be a glitch in my CD drive. Thanks for your help. It's nice to know you guys are always there.
