    New member here...

I guess I have spoiled myself with my overuse of 'msconfig' on my home machine, which runs Win 98. At work, I use Win 2000 professional, which does not have this feature. Each time I boot my Win 2000 machine, a strange 'rundll32.exe' program loads. I cannot find any apps on my machine that use this strange file. I updated my PCCillin virus patterns today and ran that program, so I've all but eliminated 'virus' as the cause. I've run "Ad-Aware" to rid my machine of spyware, so I do not think that spyware is the culprit. I've even deleted the 'rundll32.exe' program directly from the \WINNT\System32 folder that it appears in after startup (a 'Search' gave me this information). Bottom line: No matter WHAT I do, if/when I reboot, this program reappears. It's quite a memory hog too, believe it or not!

My question is this: Is there an equivilent program in Windows 2000 that will work similarly to 'msconfig' in Win 98? If not, HOW do I get rid of this nasty program once and for all??? Oh, it's not in any of the \Startup folders on my hard drive. I've looked in every single one.

Thanks in advance for ANY help with this issue!!!

    Ray

    Welcome to the boards, Ray.

This issue has been addressed on quite a few occasions in the recent past. Look at some of the posts listed here.
