I am running XP with SP3; using Internet Explorer 8; and using Outlook Express 6 for email.

I feel dumb to ask this question. But please:

How can I drag a URL in the address window of a browser screen down into the body of a smaller "compose" or "forward" screen for an email I wish to send----in order to place a link to the email for the website which is showing in the browser screen??

Hope my question is understandable. Often I wish to send a link to a good website to a good friend. But so far I simply have not been able to do it. Thanks for help.---LEE

    To drag the URL:
    1. Open Internet Explorer to the URL you want to send
    2. Open a new message window in OE
    3. Have both the new message and IE windows visible (half size)
    4. In IE, put the mouse cursor over the icon at the left-hand end of the URL
    5. Press and hold the left mouse button, drag the URL into the message pane in the new message window
    6. Let go of the mouse button to drop the URL

MIZ: Thanks for replying. I followed your directions [and I had been trying earlier to do that very thing] but it simply fails. When I left click on the symbol at the left of the address window, the browser screen pops up and simply covers up the half size "compose" screen of the OE email. I surely am puzzled as to why it does that

HOWEVER, I am pleased to say that the two methods that FLATIRON posted do in fact work very well. I can use either of them. My problem is solved. A great relief.
    So, thank you Flatiron!!!--------------Lee Mitchell

I'm glad you got it sorted out.

The drag method does require both windows to be less than full screen. The IE window will be active but if you can get the cursor over any portion of the "inactive" new message window, it will drop the URL in.

The easy way to get both windows in a usable state for dragging an URL is, with both windows open, right click the Taskbar and in the menu that opens, left click the Stack or Side By Side or Cascade option. When finished, right click the Taskbar again and left click the "Undo. "
