    Hi:
In order to placate my son I got an additional Computer for Internet use. It is an Amd 350. As my son says l.o.l.!!! Guess
who is to use i ?
Anyway it is fine for its purpose. Getting it up and running with Win 98 SE has been a real adventure. I now suspect that the purpose of the machine was to upgrade me to another higher end computer. But I was determined. They will not tell me the
necessary drivers although they had 250 of these machines.
After some effort i was able to obtain the network card driver and an ATI video driver. However I am having trouble with the
sound card driver determination.. I can see the card. However the labelling is too iny for me to read. How can I determine the
sound card type and appropriate driver ? Is there a computer
program that will do this ?

    thanks

Belarc should tell you the name of the sound card. The free program tells you what hardware and software you have on your computer.

    chip set driver and thanks

    Russ,
thanks for the rapid reply. Thanks again.
The next concern of my son is the chip set. Will the same Belarc program tell me about what chipset I have . If not what is the best way to identify the chipset ?
Where would you recommend to look for drivers ?

    thanks again

    Stephen:)

    multimedia audio device

    Russ:
I ran Belarc. Great Program. Thanks.
Belarc identified my "multimedia audio device" as: ALS 120 Logical wave device. I guess I need the driver for this.

ati video good als sound no

    Russ,

the New Zealand site was great. They gave me a complete driver set for the video. I should upload the set to the good people at ATI.
As you know I have reformatted and reinstalled Win 98 since the last crash. This time I installed Win 98 (finitial version) on a freshly formatted drive. The updates from Microsoft were then downloaded and installed.
Belarc lists the new ATI driver and card. However it does not list any sound card at all. When I try to install the Als 120 driver
the Windows 98 does not find it and instead reinstalls for teh PNP sound chip driver a driver for "other devices" , manufacturer - "none specified" , hardware "version 1.0 ".
Any ideas ? Previously the sound did work.

    Stephen
