In Win 98, I knew that I could delete start-up items ... now, in Task Manager, it only gives me the option of stopping them.

My question is ... how do I stop items like real player update alerts (i don't care to use any real player options ... on a permanent basis? Is there a danger in deleting the real player? I have so many other players and that one is particularly annoying. Also, I would like to be able to delete other items. How do I do this?

    Thanks

Start->Run->type MSCONFIG and look in the Startup Tab

Thanks ... for some reason I had it in my mind that msconfig didn't work with XP ... I always used it for win98. Must have been a brain sneeze.

Not at all. At one time it was the only player available to play cetain files, but there are alternatives now. Uninstall it from add/remove programs in the control panel.

msconfig does not ship w/ windows 2000, but xp's msconfig will run on windows 2000. Perhaps that is why you thought msconfig didn't work on xp.
