I have two Hard drives in my computer. The C: drive and the G: drive. The G is used as storage only. I want to copy all the info from G to a new internal harddrive.

I can not disconnect C: because it contains the operating system. Also C: is not large enough to copy the contents of G: temporarily. The C: drive is a 160Gb about half full, the G: drive is a 320 Gb also about half full.

The New drive is a 1 Tb. The 320 Gb (its a couple months old) will replace the C: drive as soon as I can move the info from it to the new drive.

    Am I asking too much?

    Hi Ranger

The adapter that Russ recommended is a handy handy little item.

Free software to do the copy, a backup program but use its drive to drive copy. Additionally it will image a live running system.

Is it a SATA drive? If so, you should have enough sata ports to connect all drives at the same time. If the new drive is IDE or PATA, remove the cdrom temporarily and connect it there. Once all files have been copied, remove the old secondary drive and replace with the new, put back the cdrom.

I sincerely thank all of you that responded. I should have mentioned that I know how to make a copy of a hard drive and I apologize for that ommision. I will attempt to be clearer in the future.

TonyT, yes my hard drives are SATA. So what you are saying is that there are additional connectors on the mother board?

I remember that when I added the second hard drive, I had to go into the BIOS and turn on the position for the second drive. I will look when I get home, but I think there might be addition positions that were turned off.

I hope its that easy, that means I will only need to buy one more SATA cable

Again I thank those that responded

Well, my desktop board has 4 sata ports. If yours doesn't then the cheapest way to go is to get a pci sata card and cable.
