This is new to me so please forgive my newbieness...

The data file for my accounting software is on a dedicated Win 10 Pro machine in my office which acts as the server. When I am in my office my accounting software connects to the file through the LAN but I want to also be able to connect to the data file over the internet when I am home.

All of my computers are Win 10 Pro.

Can someone direct me to an article on what I would need to do?

    Many thanks,

There are many ways to do this but it is important to understand sharing over the Internet opens up a security bucket of worms - this is especially true if you have client personal information on that work server. It would probably be better if, from work, you put this file out in "the cloud" and then access it from home.

And if you are not the boss, you for sure need to get permission before sharing anything.

The office server machine....is it Win 10 Home or PRO?
If it's Pro, you should be able to make a Remote Desktop Connection.... OR, if you have the accounting software on your home machine, it sounds like it has the ability to let you tell it where the database lives... You'd give it an IP Address, name of the database and the Sys Name/Password.

Thanks guys. I went the remote desktop route and it works fine. Might try to see if my webhost provider allows such use.
