    Greetings!

    here is the setup:

    Windows XP Pro
    Intellipoint 5.2 installed
    (2) MICE installed--(1)MS USB Basic Optical Mouse & (1)MS USB Wheel Mouse Optical

So, I have both mouse working.

My Question is how do I configure each mouse independently so I may have the buttons perfom different functions completely seperate from the other mouse...i.e. left-hand mouse setup & right-hand mouse setup.

    Thanks for help!

Make one of them a PS2 mouse. Then they wiil be separated. ANd I belive you will then be able to do as you wish.

I would suggest making the Mouse that is used the most the PS2. Then you will have it in DOS if needed. And also in the safe Mode if needed.

I mention safe mode because I am not sure a USB mouse is available in Safe Mode.

I have a PS2 and a USB mouse and I just tried my wild Idea.

When I change one it changes both.

But I never installed separate drivers either.

BillyBob, Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mouse port a type of serial port? I'm not sure how the USB injects itself in the scheme of things there though, with respect to one already in the serial port, but program wise, it seems to me that there may be a conflict. Point is I don't think one can use 2 "Meeses?" :D set at 2 different settings with the way the Ops Program is currently written.

I do not know but that is possible I guess.

I just checked to make sure but my MAIN pointing device ( 5 buttion scroll wheel MS Optical ) is a USB adapted to PS2. The other is just a plain old Logitech 2 button optical USB.

I do not see any real conflicts. But it does seem to be true that they can not be programed differently. Even though they do show as individual devices in device manager. But I never installed any drivers for the USB either. I just plugged it in.

The only time it really gets used is when my Wife uses it when we play Internet golf on Tuesday Evenings. Otherwise It is buried knee deep in papers. So I have not really had a reason to mess with it.

BillyBob, Here's some more "stuff" to cogitate.
It is if you have a PC that has USB Legacy Mode enabled.

Also I just found out most new Systems use what is referred to as a "PS/2 Mouse Interface" built right into the Motherboard. My theory book further states, that because the Motherboard mouse port uses the 8042 keyboard controller chip, the port addresses are those of this Chip. Thus IRQ12 is usually free on most of these new systems.

    Whew! ;)

I found that Intellipoint 5.2 wasn't very backwards compatible. 5.2 doesn't support my Wireless Intellimouse explorer (version 1) It only supports v2.0. I had to uninstall 5.2 and reinstall 5.0. From what I can see, functionality is basically the same for v5.0 and v5.2 apart from the backwards compatibility. This is one upgrade I can't recommend unless you have the latest hardware.
