Hello All fine folks and Happy Holidays to all:

How in the world does one remove a CMOS battery? You know, the ones that lay flat in a round circle holder with a hold down gizmo on one end of the round battery holder? I tried to pry the battery out but was afraid of breaking something. Are you supposed to lift up that hold down gizmo,(strap)??--to remove the battery?? I tried to do that on my wifes older computer, but the hold down gizmo broke off...now I'm afraid to tackle another one when I need to.

Any info will be greatly appreciated...

    rjshenal....

Ouch ........! You don't need a hammer or chisel thats for sure. Most of the newer ones require pushing that little clip (there are several different renditions) back against the sidewall while prying the battery from the opposite side with something like a small jeweler's screwdriver. However, don't force anything. Some have double teeth like snake fangs and others are like a squared u-shape. Patience - they all come out fairly easily. If broken, they become quite a problem but can be soldered - that top prong is the positive lead. And, be careful soldering any battery. Older MoBo's may require a soldered barrel battery while some permit an add on battery (complete with pinouts) while leaving the old one in place. Usually its older equipment that requires a new CMOS battery and you can expect to encounter just about anything if you look at enough of em'. Key words again - patience and don't force anything.

    ;)
