    I find in opening minimised window (LibreOffice etc) that white background of the open window is too brilliant, making reading of content (black coloured letters) harder to read and straining the eyes. Desktop screen brilliance is satisfactory. Thanks.

    Do you mean the display is too bright. If so. Start\Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options. In the left hand side of the screen click on Adjust Brightness. At the bottom of the page there is a brightness adjustment. Choose the brightness that's right for you by sliding adjustment either way.

    Thanks for response. Yes that is exactly what I require. Searched Windows 7 64-bit but fail to open as per your instruction as nothing appears under Control Panel or use of the Help.

    Is it listed in the start menu? Can you get into the control panel at all if you can at the top of the category list look for View By and change it from Category to either Small Icons or Large Icons. It's much easier to find what you are looking for in that mode.

    @Lj50 ...
    I think that only applies to laptops - certainly not present on my old Win 7 desktop.

    lj50 I changed the CP display, and indeed it is much easier to find what Is required. The left hand panel does not show "adjust brightness ". It must as PeteC says relates to Lap Tops. Thanks anyway, find the CP is now easier to find required items.

    Your only option to reduce screen brightness is to reduce the monitor brightness using the monitor on screen display (OSD).

    You and PeteC are correct. That is for laptops. Follow PeteC's directions and use the OSD to adjust the screen brightness. My apologies. I'm glad you find it easier with the different view to find things in the Control Panel.

    I just can not remember procedure to change colour of opened software screen. White is certainly most glaring for my eye sight. Clicking the monitor recessed buttons did reset and reduced slightly the glare. My monitor settings are certainly not very friendly. Thanks.

    Hi Bobby, Have you seen this link?
    How to change the colours in Windows 7

    This is an archived link from the BBC My Web my Way. Neil.

    P.S. You may need to go into your UserCP > Edit system details and put a 7 in your OS info.

    I have yet to find monitor settings which are completely user friendly, but you should have a Brightness button which will reduce screen brightness significantly.

    Unfortunately there are three very badly located what are supposed buttons of which one is the on/off. One shows a repeat of different events - one brilliance that is if lucky for it to show up, no matter how many times switch is pressed. 3rd buttons increases/decreases value. I had better control with my old CRT monitor, plus the fact modes could be changed by on screen switches.

    Have you tried adjusting the Contrast by bringing it down a little at a time. I adjusted it on my desktop for my wife and now she's satisfied.

    Do you mean control on the monitor? If it is, not able as the monitor favourite appears to "Volume" 0-100% or is it just unfriendly? Using the help sheet, managed to alter several brilliance screen except one or two that just remain white and LibreOffice is one of them. Thanks Bobby.
