    Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to burn the XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) ISO image. It is named:
    xpsp3_5512.080413-2113_usa_x86fre_spcd.iso

The title on the download page is:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 - ISO-9660 CD Image File

    The overview says,
"This file is a CD image file for users who wish to create an update CD for Windows XP Service Pack 3, "
XP Help was not helpful in indicating how to burn that ISO 9660 file to a CD.

    This Windows page, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279157/EN-US says:
The CD-RW recording feature that is built in to the Windows XP shell does not support the creation of an International Standards Organization (ISO) image

But that doesn't say that it can't burn the ISO image.

I'm guessing that XP can't burn the ISO image because that above web page also says:
At this point, the data is copied from the staging area into a monolithic stash file, which is then recorded to the disk as an image.

Question: Can I burn it using just XP or do I need something like Roxio?

    Thanks,
    Bill

You cannot burn in Windows - you require a third party burner such as Nero - I have no experience of Roxio, but no doubt that would do the job.

The command you are looking for is 'Burn Image' - in Nero 7 that is located in the menu item - Recorder > Burn Image

    IsoRecorder

This freeware is approved by MS. It allows creating and utilizing ISO files with the XP provided burner software.
