I don't have XP loaded at the moment. I'll get it loaded and employ your suggestion. I have been looking for this ability in XP all over town as I work and haven found it.

I recently bought Mark Manasi's book, Mastering Windows XP Professional. I went through the whole section on TCP/IP and looked for the word "static" in the index and it didn't show up.

Now, maybe I can find it.

    Nothings changed.
Go to Network Places Properties/ TCP IP properties/Clear the check box for automatically obtain an IP address and type in your IP and gateway.

Nothing's changed? Obviously, something is different from assigning static IP addresses in Windows 98 and 2000. The whole menu structure has changed. That is the reason I couldn't find it.

Nothing's changed in that you can still assign static IP addresses, maybe; but, how one gets to that dialog entry point has changed very much.

    Sorry :p
I meant nothing has changed from Win2K.
I have been away from 98 for so long now I assumed you were migrating from 2000.:p
