I've just spent about 10 minutes trying to find out how to add a new contact's information to my Thunderbird 2 address book. The online help and even Google only show me info on converting and transferring contacts, etc., but not the simple action of directly adding one new contact's name, address and e-mail address (which I received in the snail mail), on the fly, to the address book. I never had trouble doing that in Outlook Express.

Can someone please tell me the secret? Thanks!

    Thank you! :)

Comment: I really don't mean to be picky, but IMO they should have said something like that in the Help, maybe under a heading like "Add New Contact." They show "Address Book" and "Contacts," and there's a "Names" and an (e-mail) "Address" column. But nowhere in the menus can I find a "Cards" list. Or am I missing it? To me, "Add New Card" just doesn't mean the same thing as "Add New Contact." Oh well, on with life.

I never use that approach, which is to be done if you have not received email from that sender. It is straightforward, if mail is received, and don't want to reply. Just right clock on the sender address, and select Add to Address Book. If you just have an address written down, like from snail mail you will have to create a card, with as little or much info, as desired. It has been this way as far back as I remember, like NS7.x.
You will create a card from email, with, at least, the address, and you can add extra info, as desired. I don't use OE, so I would not know how they deal with it. In TB it a matter of nomenclature, and card, in absence of any previous info, is a coorrect term.

    Westside,

Not to beat a dead horse, but Outlook Express allows you to create a new contact entry by clicking on Address Book (button) > New (button > New Contact. That's pretty straightforward, standard English. Thunderbird's "New Card "? what's that?

It's not the different terminology that irks me, it's that in the whole TB Help system, there's no mention of creating a new contact or a reference linking the word "contact" to "card." I mean, many users like myself switch from OE to TB. Why no user-friendly terminology crossover?

OK, again, I realize this is a dead subject, so why comment further.

    Thanks!

    Frank
