From another post by Newt regarding NAT.

I believe what happend to one of my machines yesterday is along that line. If not then let me know or correct it.

I have a Linksys 4 port switch Router with 3 machine connected to it. I do not run a software Firewall.

I had run AdAware, Spybot and Cleaner3 just a couple of days and all reported the machine as clean.

I was working on my own Web Page. I went to another machine to test it to make sure I had uploaded everything. OUCH !!! NO AUDIO from either .MID or .WAV files. ????????? It was OK a couple of days ago.

Spybot found Gator and some thing else. Cleaner3 found a Trojan. AdAware found a couple of things.

OK BillyBob, it is time to check with the kids to see where they had been. One of them had been to some Music site. ( Yes, she did ask and I said OK ) I was not too smart here as I did not ask her to write the address down.

.mid & .wav files worked just fine with Media Player when open from the machine. So this says to me that SOMETHING messed up Media player ( changed the default player ) as far as the Internet goes. As to what I have yet to find out.

I wound up re-installing Media Player and all seems to be better ( right now anyway ).

I believe that even even if I was running a Software Firewall and I said it was OK to allow that site to connect ( either way ) the mentioned problem may STILL HAVE happened because I allowed the door to be opened for either exit or entry.

some of those sites are realy tricky. i think we need to pass some kind of legislation which requires websites to explicidly tell you what the download will do and if they don't, they company should be shut down, and the creator should face thousands in fines. I'm sick of all this spyware garbage.

Law banning Spyware? Doubt that'll ever happen! Makes one wonder who's watching who.
