Verizon says I can send a text message from my XP computer using Outlook Express but I have to use a 3rd party software.

What's the easiest way to do this?

Verizon's web site will let you do it too... No fuss no muss.

    Steve,

Please give me more info on "Verizon's web site" as VZ tech support was the one that said I had to go to a 3rd party,

    eisneum

If it matters, I am trying to send a text to my daughter who has a T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy 2 as follows: 949266xxxx@vtext.com

I tried your example and it was rejected by Verizon/FIOS as "invalid user address ". My wife tried it on her computer and got the same rejection. I also sent it on my backup ISP which is RoadRunner (TimeWarner) and that came back also. My wife says she has used vtext sucessfully before but not to my daughter so I assume there is some problem with sending to T-Mobile or this particular Samsung model?

you mentioned verizon in your original post. vtext is used to send text msgs to verizon phones.
    for T-Mobile use the following:
    10digitphonenumber@tmomail.net

    eisneum,

I sent 2 text messages to (phone)@tmomail.net per above using both Verizon and Roadrunner. Neither was received and neither came back to me. My daughter says my email is definitely not blocked.

I appreciate all the help but I'm at a loss why this doesn't work.

are you saying you have email accounts with both verizon and roadrunner, you have these accounts set up in outlook express, and when you send from either account in OE, the texts are not received? do you have an online email service? gmail, hotmail (now outlook.com) or yahoo mail. have you tried sending email to text with these services?

Yes, I have 2 accts set up in OE. Roadrunner is my older backup to FIOS and yes the texts are not received from either to daughter. I don't have another online email service. My wife has the same setup except she uses Outlook. She has sent a few text messages before but hers doesn't work with my daughter's T-Mobile either as indicated.

    T-Mobile's "tmomail.net" is a simple Email-to-SMS/MMS gateway.

    Email sent to:

    <t-mobile_cellphone_number>@tmomail.net

will be forwarded by SMS if no more than 160 text characters, or by MMS if HTML or over 160 characters to that T-Mobile mobile device.

This is not an email service, where the receiver can respond back to your email. It is simply a one-way, from Email-to-SMS/MMS forwarding service to T-Mobile mobile devices.

    SpywareDr,

Thanks for the info. I'm fine with a one-way text but for some reason it's not getting there.

    eisneun,

I really appreciate your persistence and excellent questions!

I just sent a text to another relative using vtext.com and THEY GOT IT!

I also sent an email to my grandson using tmomail.net and that one was returned just like his mother's.

I don't think you've mentioned that the messages are being returned... What does the returned message say?

I don't text very much with my phone... But for a couple of years I couldn't text my best friend. He could text me and I could text everyone else. We both contacted our providers and didn't get anywhere... Then one day it just started working..

It is working. I just tested from Gmail to both my T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II and then to my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 Tab with no problem. Tried again from Outlook 2007 with the same results. All four test texts arrived within a few seconds.

Messages to T-Mobile are not being delivered and not being returned.

    I'm ready to give up!

    They cannot be returned . . . it's a one-way, send-only gateway.

If she's not getting them, then something in the who-knows-what path between your Internet Service Provider and her cellphone is blocking the message.

Setup a free Outlook.com or Gmail account and try it.

    SpywareDr,

Per your suggestion, I got a Gmail account and sent 2 texts via vtext and tmomail to my daughter but she said that neither arrived (6 hrs later).

Makes me think that you have a wrong address/phone number if none of them work. Have her send one to herself and see if it works.
