Is there a standard number of emails (average length) that you can leave in Outlook Express' "delete" file? When does it start causing trouble? A friend of mine had over a thousand in it and it crashed. Is there a good rule about this?

    Thanks

    Wiry,

Have a look here for some info http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/ .

Seems to me that 1000 + emails in the Deleted folder is more than excessive - if you've deleted them once - i.e. transferred them to the Deleted Folder, go the whole hog and get rid of them completely.

Best way - Tools > Options > Maintenance > Check 'Empty messages from the Deleted Items Folder on Exit'

At the very least check 'Compact messages in the background' , and subsequent options.

    Hi, Wiry ~

'Compact messages in the background' is for Newsgroups only and will not affect e-mail messages.

You need to be offline and regularly go to 'File' > 'Folder' > 'Compact all folders'.
