I am planning on buying a computer soon, not sure when, but soon hopefully, and of course, it will have XP on it. Well I like tweaking the hell out of my Windows, is XP good for tweaking? I know the power tools are good and all, but other than that, is it good for tweaking? I was basically gonna mess with it and see if I favored it over 2K any, and if not, just load 2K on it instead, and either keep the one I have now with 2K and use another and put Linux on it, or whatever happens. I don't know. But is XP really THAT great? I also have a home network. Not running DSL or anything though, just sharing files. I've read problems with networking 2K and XP. Anyway, thanks for input when I get some.

    "How GREAT is XP? "

Just a couple of thoughts. I have 3 computers in our home. win98, winME, and on the one that I use, WinME on the C drive with dual boot into D for WinXP. Dual monitors on both OSs. We also have a home LAN. dialup , need a dish (direcpc... later maby)

My dual boot defaults into XP with only a 3 second delay. Why?

Only a couple of times a month do we use ME.... usually when I have pulled an experiment and the Wife needs to go online and it is running all the same software as XP.

I have used 2K but don't have a need for it on a home computer..

WinME don't crash as long as we just use programs in a normal way without trying to tweak it with utilities that do work in W98 etc.. this statement seems to also be true for XP, but XP seems to be tough and protects itself with a zeal.

I also tinker with various builds of LINUX.

    THE short answer is,

I would not want to be without WinXP and it is the OS of choice here and I still get into a lot of tweaking as you mentioned.
