   I searched MS site but couldn't find a solution for fairure to install.
   
   Using XP-Pro with SP2

   I went google on the issue and found the simplest solution running XP SP2 being installing SP3 (KB885836 is included in SP3).
   
   All the usual precautions should be taken prior to installing a Service Pack:
   
   Clear temp files
   Clear internet history
   Defragment
   Create a Restore Point
