    Hi -

Last Friday I was away from my computer for an hour or two and left my Outlook open... when I returned my Outlook had crashed. I am desperate to get those emails back, so am hoping to restore my computer to an earlier time when I know Outlook was working.

The only directions I can find anywhere are for Windows XP which appears you can choose Restore System to an Earlier Date, which is what I am looking for... but I don't see how to do it through Microsoft 2000.

Can anyone please help? I desperately need the emails for a Work Project deadline that is fast approaching!!

Hi byrd220. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :) System Restore is not included in Windows 2000. Its for Windows XP and Vista users only. Have you tried rebooting your machine and restarting Outlook? When you start up Outlook do you have any e-mails or have they all been deleted? Also take a look here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070

Im sure other members will jump in and offer their expertise and advice on how to solve the problem. :)

Windows 2000 doesn't have a restore feature. Although you where using Outlook for email which is good because Outlook stores email in a file. Outlook.PST and Archive.PST if you have archiving turned on. Outlook.PST contains all of the email that you have received, including attachments. If you are just getting an error when opening Outlook, you should reinstall it. If it gives you an error about your personal folder then you need the application "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\LocaleID\scanpst.exe ". Usually that application will correct the problem.

If your system is still working you can get the emails back by searching the system for .dbx type files using w2k built in search function, they are -inbox.dbx, outbox.dbx, drafts.dbx, sent.dbx ect:.
When you find them copy them to somewhere safe.
To open them you will have to swop them for the existing .dbx files in a working system, which you can find by searching again, then you can access your emails. Swop the inbox only if that is all you need. Rename the one you will be replacing if you need to keep them, and swop back after.
