After trying to update to the Win10 creators update about 6 times, I went to the Gateway website to see if I could find any driver updates. I found my specific model number but they only had applicable updates for either Win7 or Win8. I found a section for Win10 and was informed that my machine is not verified for the Win10 creators update. Guess that's why I've had so many problems. And believe me, I tried everything, including re-installing windows. Anyway, I've been using wushowhide so I can stop the update from going through but suddenly microsoft decided enough was enough and installed and ran, without my notice or approval the windows upgrade assistant. So of course the update failed and it rolled back to the last version. I uninstalled it but once again this morning, it installed itself and ran once again. I had to take my ethernet cable out so it would stop downloading and then uninstall it again. I went to my anitvirus firewall, found windowsupgradeassistant.exe and blocked it there. Hoping this will help, but is there any other way?

I think there was reference to upgrading from W7 to W10.
    You are running W7?
You will/should be able to uninstall any KB from your update history in W7.

No, I have Windows 10. I apologize, I thought I made that clear. I have version 1609 I believe. The problem is my computer won't accept the creator's update. It's tried about 5-6 times and it just locks up completely. I've tried all the suggestions on this site and Gateway informed me my model is not certified for this update. The main problem, is over the past few days, there's a piece of software called Windows Upgrade Assistant Tool that's downloading and installing by itself and then attempts to download and install the creators update on it's own. I've uninstalled it but it downloaded and installed itself again.

In some cases, like yours, that is the work of the devil. It won't succeed and it won't go away.

Have you tried downloading the most recent upgrade (1709) via the Media Creation Tool? If not, have it create the media to a USB-stick and from within Windows 10, run the installer.

I emphasize that you must create the tool and not let it run from the linked page which would be almost the same as via the Upgrade Assistant. Also, do it disconnected from the internet and worry about additional updates later. In addition to that, disconnect all other hardware like printer, scanner and external HDDs/SSDs.

When helping friends with their problems, this has often worked for me when all other attempts have failed. The lack of specific drivers from the manufacturer is a potential problem but the generic Microsoft drivers just might work even if the manufacturer states that the hardware is "not compatible".

It's worth a try to get out of the "loop".

Will this do a complete reinstall of Windows 10 with the new version or just try to upgrade to the new version?

Every upgrade is more or less a reinstallation but it will give you the option to "keep programs and personal files" or to do a "clean installation". It will keep the old operating system in a folder "windows.old" and for a week or two you will have the option to go back to the previous version. After that time, that folder will be automatically deleted. (If you know that you won't need it, you yourself can delete it by doing a disk cleanup using the Windows tool.) Whichever option you choose, do backup any personal files that you would hate to lose!

Sorry, but your Profile page needs updating as it shows your OS as Windows 7 Premium 64bit!
Thanks for helping Christer. I agree that MS generic drivers should do the job.

Oh, goodness! I didn't even realize that. Thanks for pointing it out, I've changed it. I've refreshed my Windows several times but it was to a much earlier version. I downloaded it to a USB. I haven't seen the program try and install or run itself so maybe blocking it in the firewall helped. I may try to reinstall this weekend when I have more time. Will advise of the outcome.
