After getting new m/b, drive, ram, processor and operating system, i am getting Horizontal screen tearing on my TV watching films stored on one of the HDD's that are mostly MKV files, but not my monitor. There was no instructions as to how to set up the graphics and had to try and work it out for myself.

After connecting the HDMI and switching to Hdmi on the TV i got the Desktop view after a bit of fiddling i right clicked and saw options to clone monitor and hey presto got my image.

I could only see the TV in Graphics in control panel and tried some settings, i found the 60htz was marginally better than 59htz but the resolution setting wont go any higher than 1680 x 1050 and cant see anywhere on how to get it to 1080 mode, i even tried the rendering settings in MPC-HC and setting it to VSync-Accurate VSync and was again marginally better.

Is there something im missing or can someone help in solving the issue and how to get back to where i saw the Desktop to clone as i saw more options but cant see how to reset it.

All drivers are up to date except for one which said M/B is or not supported cant remember which, and i think it was this file MEI-Win7-8-8-1_VER10001204 but im not sure i will have to try again later, and all MS updates are on, just got to go through the unimportant ones to determine which if any is needed.

Hi andsaw, Just a question on your System specs.
    Which are you using?
Is the Onboard switched off when you use the card? Neil.

No, just let us know when you Post that it's the Onboard Graphics that are in use. My thought was there might have been a conflict. Neil.

After having a good nosy, i have found some settings where i can fill in some custom resolutions for my tv, mainly Height, Width, refresh rate, Colour Depth, Underscan Percentage and timing Standard.
I have no idea on how to use these settings, apart from height and width which is tv size, in my case 1920 x 1080, i have no idea what my tv's actual refresh rate is, only that it's 600 hz but that isn't the real refresh rate, these are just the standard settings.
There are also Advanced settings which are Front porch, Back porch, sync width, Active, Sync polarity, Scan rate, Total and Pixel clock. These are a bit more alien to me and don't know where i would get these specs.
Does anyone have this sort of knowledge on how to sort these setting out, at least if i can sort these out and still have the problem, then i could start looking for other alternatives.

After having another play around last night, i sorted it, i had another go today just to make sure it was ok, what i did was to go to Multiple Displays in settings, used the Extended Desktop and used my Tv as the Primary and there was a 1920 x 1080 resolution in the general setting, i applied the settings played back problem film and it was flawless.
I think when you try to clone your desktop monitor and you want to play HD on a HDTV you need a 1920 x 1080 hd monitor or there's some mis-match, like my monitor is 1680 x 1050 and my Tv is trying to reproduce the same image but in HD and thus creates the tearing if you see what i mean, i hope i have translated the cure correctly, I am so happy at the moment.
