hi I was wondering how to permanently remove the msn messenger icon that keeps reappearing in my system tray?.I removed all other unwanted icons by clicking start and typing msconfig in the run box,and I unchecked the boxes and I successfully removed everything I don't want except the msn messenger won't go away it keeps reappearing?.I heard some where that msn is preinstalled with windows xp,does this have something to do with why I can;t remove it.

    Hi there!

MSN Messenger is not installed with Windows XP, any SP but Windows Messenger is. Outlook Express uses that function and as soon as OE is used, that icon appear in the Notification Area (the one next to the clock).

You say that it shows up in the System Tray (the one next to the START button) but I have never seen it there.

It is possible to uninstall Windows Messenger but there is a chance that OE will suffer a slowdown without it.

    Run>type or cut&paste:

    RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

then okay out. Poof! Should be gone, never to return!
