[Active] How Do I Remove Antispyware Soft?

Hi all,

My nephew has kids: Need I say more? Anyway, he got infected with the Antispyware Soft bug. He can't do anything as the thing won't allow programs to open and he's loaded with pop-ups.

He's bringing his 'puter over tomorrow (Tuesday) for me to fix.

I've searched all over the web and all I can really find is partial information or ads to buy removal programs.

If anyone knows of a free program I can run or knows of manual removal (I have no qualms about editing the registry or anything else) I'd really appreciate the info.

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click Rkill and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

* Rkill.com
* Rkill.scr
* Rkill.pif
* Rkill.exe

• * Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.
* If using Vista or Windows 7 right-click on it and choose Run As Administrator.
* A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
* If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
* If it does not work, repeat the process and attempt to use one of the remaining links until the tool runs.
* Do not reboot until instructed.
* If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and run exeHelper.

• * Please download exeHelper from Raktor to your desktop.
* Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
* A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
* A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
* Attach the log.txt file to your next message.

Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file ", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

==============================================================

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
2. Close any open browsers.
3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
• Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results ".
• Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE1. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
NOTE 2. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always do so.
• Close any open browsers.
• WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
• Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
• If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
4. Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
5. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
6. Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

Download HijackThis:
http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/
by clicking on Installer under Version 2.0.4
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, or 7, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator

Hi broni,

He just dropped it off (8:00 pm). I appreciate all the links, but is going through all the above really necessary? Some sites have given some stuff to delete from the registry and msconfig. I'm thinkin' that if I can disable it, then run SuperAntiSpyware, it should be clean.

Of course, remember that I'm not paid to think — but to just sit around and look pretty. :p

Hi broni,

Should I try the steps I mentioned first; or do you think I should run the apps you posted?

The bottom line, when dealing with an infection - be patient. You miss something and couple of days later, bad guys are back.
By now, you'd have all steps done.

True. Plus, your mention of missing something is probable.

Anyway, Thanks(!): It's a little late to get into it now, so I'll tackle it tomorrow after consuming copious amounts of coffee first. I'll post back and let you know how it went. We're in the same Time Zone so it'll probably post around 11ish (or so).

Update

Well, after trying several things, I still couldn't do diddly squat. I had to do some reg cleaning and found a really weird file in several places (yjyctfntssd.exe). Even a Google Search turned up nothing. The tip-off was the "tssd" that I read elsewhere.

I deleted it from everywhere and was finally able to run SuperAntiSpyware. It found 73 "bugs" and fixed them.

I'm going to run a different AntiSpyware scan and an AntiVirus scan to see what comes up.

After I'm done, if all "appears" to be well, should I post a HijackThis log to see what was missed?

No. You either follow my instructions, or I'm not taking any responsibility for your computer being clean.
Said that, I'm not going to waste my time, replying here, unless proper logs are posted.

Hi broni,

I have no intention of not following your instructions. I see in my post I forgot to add: "Then I'll run the above." to my next to last paragraph.

As it stands now, his computer is, like, 98% fragmented and running another Spyware\AV scan turned up more little nasties.

Once I get it cleaned up a little more, I'll blast it with the apps you posted and let you know the results.
