For a total of three including the laptop screen. My laptop is a Dell E5420 with a VGA out on one side, and a HDMI on the other. I can also put it in a docking station and have a DVI connection there. I believe I have the hardware, but do not know what to do.
    {Pleaase help.

Plugging monitors into the two external ports you have will probably do the trick;)

Have a read here: Multiple Displays FAQ

AFAIK you can use two external displays, but then won't be able to use the internal LCD, so no, you can't run with three on your E5420.
