I have just installed W2K for a friend and there are multiple users using the computer. He would like to disable the control panel for one user and not another. Two users and the administrative account. This is just stand alone W2K install and is not on any network. I thought that there was a way to restrict access to the control panel for a single user. Yet allow acces to another user and the administratove account. I looked through the option in the mmc etc and looked thru the group policy settings etc, but could not find anything.

Can anyone help me as I am at a loss and cannot remember for the life of me how to do it!!!:D

Thanks to all in advance as I know that if there is a solution you wonderful ppl will help me find it :D

    thanks again.......

    Hello Headlyte1!

There is a registry hack that can be done to disable the control panel for selected users.

To be able to edit the registry for a restricted user, You have to log on as administrator and temporarily add that specific user to the administrators group. If You don´t, the registry can not be edited for that user.

You do that in Start > Control panel > Administrative tools > Computer management > Local users and groups > Users.
Right-click that specific user > Properties > Member of > Add > type "Administrators" correctly spelt in Your language > click OK - Apply - OK > exit that tool.

Next, log off administrator and log on that specific user.

Do the Disable Control Panel hack and log off that specific user.

Finally, log off that specific user and on as administrator and remove that specific user from the administrators group.

    HTH,
    christer
