I recently installed MS Office 2007 Home and Student version to my Netbook PC.

When I 'open' START MENU (I have classic start menu enabled) I do not have an 'item' for Open Office Document OR New Office Document which I have on my desktop PC which has MS Office XP installed.

Is there a way to add these items on my Netbook PC?

    Hi jparnold,

Start -> Setting -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs.
    Change or Remove Programs.
Then select Microsoft Office and Press Change.
    Check Reinstall or Repair.
    Press Next.
Check "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation "
Also Check "Restore my Start Menu Shortcuts" then Press Install.

You may need to insert the MS Office 2007 Home and Student CD during the process.

    Thanks for the advice.
    BUT
When I followed the instructions and clicked on CHANGE button a menu displayed with options -
Add features (or something like that)
    Repair
    Remove
I tried clicking REPAIR and the repair process started immediately without any chance to select "Detect and Repair errors in my Office installation "
I also tried the Add Features but that only presented me with a menu of the featured I chose not to install when I installed the product.
Could it be that this version (Home and Student) doesn't allow "Restore my Start Menu Shortcuts "?
    Very strange.

    G'DAy "jparnold ",

To me it sounds as though you did a default (which is only a partial) installation of Office 2007 rather than a complete Full (Run everything from Hard Disk) installation.

    1. put the Office 2007 cd inti the CD/DVD drive, wait for it to load -> close any pop-up windows.

    2. To fix this, Go to Control Panel-Add/remove programs, click on Office 2007, click on Change, and then on Add or Remove Features and click on Continue.

In the next window you will note that some items are grayed out, now click on the 1st item "Microsoft Office" and in the drop down menu select (click on it) "Run all from my computer" and note that all options have now turned the grayed out items to white boxes, if so now again click on "Continue' and allow the office to fully install.

When finished, re-boot, and then have a look at your start Menu.

    Or,
Just make 2 new shortcuts and you can pin them to the Task-bar or Start Menu.
Anyone looking at this who is lost doing this, the "target" field: in the shortcuts should have something like this,

    1. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OSA.exe" -n
    and
    2. "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\OSA.exe" -f

Make sure the parameter -n and -f are outside the quotation marks at the end with a space after the " , or just copy and paste the above 2 lines including the " mark at the beginning.
You can also find the appropriate icons for the shortcut within osa.exe

    Thanks pcbugfixer,

I went to CHANGE > Add Remove features and selected "Run all from my computer" and allowed "One Note ", "PowerPoint" and "Visio Viewer" to install and after rebooting the Start Menu now contains "Open Office Document" and "New Office Document ".

For your knowledge (regarding your second option to create shortcuts manually) the file OSA.EXE did NOT appear (in the OFFICE12 folder) until I installed all (Office) options (ie run all from my computer).

ALSO with OFFICE XP I have NEVER installed all options (eg never install PowerPoint or Access) as I only ever want to use WORD and EXCEL, YET even though not all options were installed I ALWAYS had "Open Office Document" and "New Office Document" in the Start Menu - strange don't you think.
I have now gine back and did a CHANGE from Add/REmove programs and REMOVED PowerPoint and Visio Viewer, rebooted and "Open Office document" and New Office Document:" are still listed in Start Menu and OSA.EXE still exists in the Office12 folder. Maybe OSA.EXE is installed with features "Office Shared Features" and/or "Office Tools" - I am sure I initially selected one of these two features but not sure which one.

    Thanks again.

Office 2007 does not put these shortcuts on the Start menu, this was a functionality of older office versions.

    Hi Arie,
When I selected "Run all from my computer" (when installing Office 2007), all the shortcuts were placed in the Start Menu. It seems this is the only method to ensure the shortcuts are created. It also seems the only way that OSA.exe (Office Startup Assistant ) is installed.
