I removed some ad ware and when I rebooted the fonts on the desktop, OE, and other programs changed. How do I designate a font?

If you haven't customized XP's look's much the easiest way would probably be to just set XP back to it's original theme and then change the wallpaper when you're done. Right click on the desktop>properties>themes. Otherwise, you can change things individually by once again, right click the desktop>properties>appearance>advanced. For icons I have the Tahoma font, size 8. I think that's the default but I can't say for sure. I may have changed it somewhere along the way. For OE I think it will default to whatever font you have IE set to use. If I'm wrong, I'm sure somebody will correct me. :)
