I have a device that communicates to the PC via ethernet TCP/IP. When it is not connected, the pc takes a full 60 seconds before timing out. I was informed by the device manufacturer that the timeout setting is part of windows networking. Does anybody have any idea how to shorten this delay to like 1 second?
    Thanks

Could you please tell us about this device? What is it? What is it supposed to do? Who is the manufacturer?

A little more information would be helpful.

tompyd--In IE Tools|Internet Options|Connections tab|Dial up Settings|Advanced tab there is the option to change the time for Disconnect if Idle. However, the shortest option on my PC is one minute.
There may be a place in the Registry to set a shorter period, but I can't tell you where. (Sounds unlikely, if that Advanced tab window will not permit.)

This is not for disconnecting, but rather the amount of time allotted when the connection attempt is first made. The device the pc is connecting to is a Wago I/O system via ethernet. The protocol is TCP/IP and there is a dll to initiate communications via modbus protocol. If the device is not on or connected, the dll call hangs for 1 minute. this is the time i wish to change. thanks anyway for replying.
