I have a HP all in one computer and it has win 8, I want to put another hard drive in it and change to win 7, I put the other hard drive and I tried to boot with a boot disk. and it kept saying error boot disk not regonized or disk bad.
I tried it in another computer and it worked fine. the old hard drive had the backup and everything on it, I don't see why I just can't swap hd.

Does the second drive already have Win 7 on it from a different computer that uses different drivers?

Or are you having trouble booting off a dvd drive to install Win 7?

Iam using a hard drive that's supposed to be formatted. but I tried to use a boot disk to make sure its formatted but it won't take the disk. I also tried a win 7 install disk but won't take that eather. I thought it might be because of the boot order in bios. but I changed that to cd first boot.

Doesn't that usually mean that the Hard Drive hasn't got Boot requirements on it?
I think you might need to use a Boot Disc (FDISK).
Once it's Booted and you've installed the OS, you'll need to make sure you all the necessary drivers for your motherboard etc. Followed by OS updates. Neil.

AFAIK HP doesn't supply Windows 7 driver for the 20-b013w, so most likely you'll be SOL.

You can't just move a hard drive with installed OS from one PC to the next without some major 'work'.

i have no software on this hard drive, I want to install win 7 on it, but the computer won't regonize the disk. I know I can't just switch hard drives with an os installed.

Would it be possible to manually enter the HD specs into the BIOS? (I hope I'm understanding the question correctly)

I might be misunderstanding the OP but I had something similar recently. The way I got round it was to pop the disk I wanted the new Windows 7 OS on into an external disk caddy. Connect it to my PC. Open the Computer Management MSC and in there went to Disk Management. In there identified my external HD, right clicked it and Deleted the Volume. Putting that HD into the PC I wanted the new OS to install on it went on perfectly.
