I had to format my hard drive and reload XP Home. I did this a couple of days ago. I've downloaded and installed all the updates and am just about getting settled in when I find that for some reason an identiy was created with the name OWNER. When I look in Documents and Settings everthing is under OWNER. I've deleted the id but everywhere OWNER is the keeper of the keys (so to speak).

I would like to do away with OWNER and replace him with Jim. Is there a way to do this as OWNER is in the registry (all over the place) and I'm sure in places I don't know.

    Thanks all :)

You're supposed to be able to change the name by rightclicking the profile in device manager>local users and groups>user.Type the new user name, and then press ENTER.
I don't know why you are trying to delete it.

Changing the name of the account in Control Panel>User Accounts is unfortunately only cosmetic. It will not change the name back in the file structure under "Documents and Settings>UserName. "

You'll need to create a new user account with the preferred name and copy the data from the existing Owner account.

Complete instructions are in the MS KB article, How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile.

Although the current "Owner" account isn't corrupted, the process is the same.

Thank you, Jim...I admit this is the first time I've been called a peach. I shall refrain from going into what I have been called. ;)

Thanks for posting back to let us know you got it sorted out to your satisfaction.
