I have a mp3 file, obviously with a name (Track 1). When I rename it, it's named the new name.

When I put my thumb drive into my stereo, it displays the old name. Any file I rename (right click, rename), shows up as the old name.

If I rename a file, isn't that the name now?

Why does it show the new name, but in a stereo, the old?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

    Hi Chris,

MP3 files have a filename (stateing the obvious) which operating systems such as windows and linux etc use. When you rename an MP3 you change the filename.

However, they also have ID3 tags (see wiki) which contain track data (which MP3 players use), changing the filename will not change the title tag. ID3 Tag Editors are available though, see that wiki link for more information.

I hope this helps and please let us know.
