How can I remove Outlook Express from Vista?

I am trying to install Microsoft Outlook 6 but I am prevented from doing so because Vista insists there is a newer version on my notebook. I have tried using start/control panel/add remove programs but Outlook Express is not listed; I do not have MS Office installed; and I cannot find even find Outlook Express in start/programs/accessories.

I download emails from Yahoo & my ISP. I have two email adresses, one at Yahoo and one at my ISP. The point of using the old Microsoft Outlook 6 is because it only downloads new emails as they arrive at Yahoo. Whereas newer of versions Outlook Express continues to download old emails that have already been downloaded from the Yahoo server. Consequently the result of using newer versions of Outlook Express is chaos; because I have ten thousands of emails accumulated during the last nine years stored on the Yahoo Server (I use them for research).

Please don't ask why,I can only say that I travel overseas a lot and there is method in my madness. Using the old Outlook Express 6 makes it possible for me to archive, index and search thousands of emails on my notebook; whereas newer versions of Outlook Express make this impossible because they keep downloading what has already been downloaded from Yahoo.

Perhap you will need to import the OE messages into Windows Mail PRIOR to downloading any new mail.

    1. Create a directory under the current user's Documents, such as Documents\OEMail. This directory needs to be within the user's space, such as under Documents, in order to prevent possible access permissions problems.
    2. Copy all the dbx files from one Outlook Express Identity into this directory, ensuring that folders.dbx is included.
    3. Go to Edit | Select all in Windows Explorer and select all the dbx files. Then right click on the selection and choose Properties and ensure that the read only attribute of the files is unchecked.
    4. In Windows Mail go to File | Import Messages and choose Outlook Express 6 format and choose to import from a directory.
    5. Then use the Browse button to browse to the directory of dbx files.
    6. Then select the files from which you wish to import messages and click Import.

I'm assuming you are trying to install Outlook Express (6)? You can't.

Vista ships with Windows Mail which supersedes OE. You can either install Windows Life Mail, or Microsoft Office Outlook.
