I seem to have some corrupt files on my laptop, which runs Windows Vista. How can I fix or delete them?

Open My Computer and then RIGHT click on the drive in question. Select Properties, Tools, Error Checking and go from there.

Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes.
For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it's checking for errors.

Thanks for the advice. I followed the instructions, and was told that the system could not check the disk while it was in use. The disk was my main disk, the C drive.

I was asked whether I wanted the system to check the disk the next time the computer was started. I said yes, and restarted the computer.

While booting up, the computer said it was checking the C drive. But it took about two seconds for it to say the file system was fine. That is all the checking it did.

    Did I do something wrong?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that when I get a chance.

Was there a check in both boxes or just the top one? I always do BOTH boxes. Try it again.

I did try again, and the third time it worked. Thanks.

Glad it worked. Usually works the first time. I have only used it a handfull of times with no problems on it doing it the first time. I know some people who do it weekly. OVER KILL as far as I am concerned.
