Since SP 2 it is no longer possible te see in (Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs) which update (for example KB884020) is installed on your computer.

Is there another way (other then viewing installation history on windowsupdate.microsoft.com) to check the installed Windows updates?

    Greetings,
    Jan

Hi Jan and welcome to the Windows BBS!

SP2 superseedes all previous updates and that is why they no longer show up in Add/Remove. SP2 does show up there and if You should decide to uninstall SP2, the old updates will be restored to their former glory.

If You go to Windows Explorer, in the Windows directory, there should be the old $NtUninstall$ folders for each update that could be uninstalled. They are still there if You should decide to uninstall SP2. In addition, there is also a $ServicePackUninstall$ folder for SP2. They are compressed and show up in blue color. You have to set WE to show hidden files.

Also useless after SP2. They can be burned out if you want to save them. The SP2 uninstall file can also be treated the same way.

Yeah Jim and it still works!

Here's what you get after installing SP2:

Prior to installing SP2, the list was longer than my arm. :) SP2 being cumulative doesn't list all that it contains, nor do you need that with it installed.

I see that it affected my Aida32 readout as well although there are still some items listed that fall outside the scope of the SP2 cumulative fixes. Electives I suppose.

List of fixes included in SP2

    Charles,

Yes but if they are still there, they indicate which hotfixes were installed prior to SP2 and that was the question.

Wait until SP2 has been verified to work well. Then, just delete them and don't waste a CD on something that will never be used ...... ...... said the Ghost user.

Ok, Christer, now that Jan found out, they are useless :)

One more point, with SP2, really doesn't matter what prior hotfixes were applied, SP2 applies all criticals. Anything that wasn't a pre SP2 critical didn't have a uninstaller and should have been kept track of in another way.

    Regards - Charles

    surferdude2--About qfecheck.
Not having any luck with the download from
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A12A-BFAB8CFCCC03&displaylang=en&Hash=WTVFSD9
I first Saved it and clicked on the downloaded file. I clicked on the saved .exe file and after a series of windows was told I had installed successfully. But I could not find qfecheck.exe on my Hard Drive.
I then Ran the download from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...A12A-BFAB8CFCCC03&displaylang=en&Hash=WTVFSD9
Got the same windows with success indicated. No qfecheck.exe on the HD.
Then tried Start|Run|qfecheck.exe|OK. Got a brief flash of a DOS window, which disappeared.
However, I see that this download is called "Q282784_WXP_SP1_x86_ENU.exe
" which implies this is for XP SP1. I run SP2.
Any idea what I am doing wrong? Is the installed file called qfecheck.exe?

Jim, you'll need to run it from a command window rather than from the Run line. Chances are it's running fine but the results disappear before you get a chance to see them.

Also, you should be able to locate the file by searching for qfecheck.exe as you stated. You should find it at C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qfecheck.exe as I do. Perhaps you aren't showing all files due to not having selected that view.

surferdude2--Yep, that does it. Thank you.
Certainly does not follow the instructions on the download page
"Once saved you will need to open the .exe file to run the program. "
Also a little scary that my Search function did not find it in System32

BTW, it works on SP2 just fine. Perhaps for fun, search from a command line, here's how and what I get:

    C:\>dir/s qfecheck.exe

Volume in drive C is MAXTOR 4D04
    Volume Serial Number is 3E09-FAF1

    Directory of C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

    02/28/2002 07:40 PM 48,944 qfecheck.exe
    1 File(s) 48,944 bytes

BTW Jim, any item that is listed as "Current on System" is installed properly and anything without that tag was not installed properly and will need attention.

You'll notice that the SP2 download is listed as KB811113.

In passing I will add that you are probably using the search tool of XP which is sorely lacking and definitely misleading at times. I strongly suggest you get AgentRansack which is freeware and widely acclaimed.
