My HP Presario desktop computer displays that the DVD/CD drive has been disabled. Can this error be repaired? I was unaware drive had been disabled.

Is the drive listed in Device Manager? If so ....

    Try the following .....

Device Manager > Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives > Right click on drive > Enable

If that option is not available .....

Device Manager > Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives > Right click on drive > Uninstall and reboot. Windows should find the drive and re-install.

Pete C, your are a genius, your second suggestion, completely erased the error, DVD/CD drive now working again. My sincere thanks, most appreciated. I am at a lost what caused the DVD/CD drive to show as "disabled" in the first place. My heading was incorrectly entered, should be "able" not disable ".

You're welcome :) All PC's have unexplained blips from time to time!

Very true. However, unexplained blips like changed settings could be signs of malware activity. So whenever something unexplained happens, it is always a good idea to manually scan your computer for malware - just to be sure it was nothing malicious got by your real-time security.

I recommend Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM) and SUPERAntiSpyware Free for supplemental scanning.

Bill, yes, I do use Malware Pro. on a daily base, it has not so far pointed to any infections todate. Error did first show up after my friend last E-mail with pictures that refuse to open.

That's fine. But note MBAM Pro (the paid version) runs full time in real-time. I am saying you need (everyone needs) a secondary scanner in addition to their full time scanner for manual scans - a means to double-check to ensure our real-time scanners did not let something slip by.
