How are you on Profile passwords?

Not been able to manipulate .js files to require
profile passwords either through 1-migrating 4.79
    profiles into 7.02; 2-adding/manipulating lines
in user's prefs or lipref.js files; or 3- exploding browser.xpi--adding lines to all-ns.js--recompressing and overwriting old browser.xpi then running or rerunning setup. No luck either in trying to get it to implement a line requiring the email server login password before user can see any mail--on server or in local boxes. Would appreciate any help I can get.

    Welcome to the Forum, GBM!

    Hi GBM,

I started a new thread for you, as I feared your problem would get lost in the thread where you originally posted.

I have no experience with a LAN, Windows NT, or home networking. Shall I assume then, that you have tried deselecting "Remember Password" in the Password Manager, and that it has no effect on your workstations? The passwords are kept in the:
    C:\Winnt\Profiles\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt\randomnumber.s file.

Any further information you can give us, i.e., OS, etc. would make searching for a solution much easier.

    Thanks!

    Ramona :D

not applicable in this situation. That solution
only forces user to enter their mail server password. I am talking about a password needed to
open a profile, even if there is only one. We have had in in place since 4.76. No profile password-no Navigator or Messenger at all-no see messages in local mailboxes. That's what I want to duplicate in 7.x. Thanks for the reply, though. Someone knows the answer.

I see you are trying to dupllicate the Communicator profile password feature in NS7.xx .....maybe the following NG post will shed some light on the issue.

Netscape 6/7 is designed to have a separate profile registry for each OS user. That means that you can set up as many profiles as you want in your OS profile, and none of them will show up in the profile manager,
when a different user has logged on.

Sounds like I cannot get what I want, even manipulating the .js files. Thanks for the info.
Now we have to figure out how to out-design the
    designers.
