I'm looking for a reliable, unobtrusive hotkey app. Suggestions would be welcome.

Specifically, I want to hotkey my system window, so I don't have to keep drilling down through multi layers when I want to check out whether or not some piece of hardware is showing the ! icon.

    TX

Maybe there's a macro for this? Which reminds me that I'm also keen to find out how to organize a script to create and control file backups. One of my customers (a lawyer) has a system that his previous IT guy set up, which backs up all of his docs every day to one of his LAN pcs.

    Thanks :)

    Hi, masonite. :)
Hold down the Windows key and hit the Pause/Break key.

    Does that work satisfactorily?

Hi Mailman, thanks for your response :).

I worded my question badly - I can see now that my target is the 'Device Manager' window.

The key combo that you suggest gets the 'System Properties' window. Clicking the 'Hardware' tab, then the 'Device Manager' button, opens the 'Device Manager' window, which is the one I'd like to hotkey.

If you just want easy Access to the Device Manager, browse to Windows\system32\DEVMGMT.MSC and right-click it > Send To > Desktop As Shortcut. Then right-click drag that Shortcut to your Quick Launch bar and release > select "Move Here." If you like, you can place one on the Start Menu by "Pinning" it there. You can also drag one to the All Programs menu and drop it wherever you like.

If you more than that, get HotKeys151 from here. It is quite handy but takes some time to learn the hot licks. It does all you want and much more. The price is right - free!

There are a couple of other HotKey programs there but I haven't tested either of them.

I have tested and used YankeeClipper. I recommend it highly.

Mickzer and SurferDude2 - thank you very much.

The shortcut to devmgmt.msc is probably the easiest method, but the other links will be very useful.

    Much appreciated!
