When hot fixes are installed, the Add/Remove area shows them permanently. Can they be safely removed, or will this cause problems?

If you use add/remove to remove one you will be uninstalling the hotfix/patch.

If you want to free up drive space and are sure you won't later need to uninstall a particular patch you can go to the windows folder and the first items listed should begin and end with $. These will be the uninstall files for the service packs, hot fixes, patches. They can be safely deleted to free up space but that will mean you can't later uninstall a fix.

It's possible doing that will remove the add/remove listing. I really don't know and haven't tried it myself.

    Newt,

Yes, if you delete the $NTUninstaLL... files for a patch. I'm assuming though that if you download these uninstall files again - if they are saved on removable media, that the patch(s) can be uninstalled.

    billbrazil,
