    My hosts.ics file contains

    192.168.0.1 nosoup4u.mshome.net # 2010 9 3 15 17 13 49 93

Wondering if there is a problem on my hosts.ics file, since my workgroup name is face2interface, not the default mshome.net.

I'm trying to understand why there are a couple of problems on my LAN

    1) explorer always takes a long pause when navigating over to the workgroup
    2) my laptop is still showing up on the workgroup

Maybe 2 is causing 1, but I don't know what I can do about that. Running XP sp1 and rebooting didn't fix the problems.

    My hosts file contains

    127.0.0.1 localhost me
    192.168.0.1 nosoup4u nosoupforyou-next
    192.168.0.160 penguin yoyomaplayscello
    192.168.0.208 squag

    From http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=309642
This has nothing to do with your workgroup name.

    My hosts file contains
    192.168.0.1 nosoup4u nosoupforyou-next
    192.168.0.160 penguin yoyomaplayscello

Why? Any particular reason, for instance, for wanting both nosoup4u and nosoupforyou-next to point to the same PC? Which is the PC name, or is it something else altogether?

    How are your PCs networked?

    Hi Newt,

Ok, so my hosts.ics file is ok. How do I get rid of a node in network neighborhood that isn't on the lan anymore though?

    Also to answer your question

    My hosts file contains
    192.168.0.1 nosoup4u nosoupforyou-next
    192.168.0.160 penguin yoyomaplayscello

nosoup4u and penguin are the names of my xp workstation and a red hat 9 box. Both these computers run Apache web server so the second name is what I use for their web root names i.e. http://nosoupforyou-next and http://yoyomaplayscello are the websites operating out of nosoup4u and penguin, respectively.
