Have an E.T.C. folder on my desktop. What is it for and how do I use it? Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Not sure why you have an etc folder on desktop, there's not supposed to be one there.

I removed the info I had posted here because I didn't realize this was 98 we're talking about and it wasn't relevant. Have to be more careful I guess.

    Hello Lis,

Is it etc or as you posted E.T.C?

    What's in it if anything?

    Regards - Charles

    Appreciate all the replies.

The folder contains all the C:\WINDOWS folders? Should I just right click and delete?

    Thanks for your time.

Check the properties of the folder (right click on it>properties) to see if it's an actual folder or just a shortcut to one. Also check what the size of it is.

OOPs, I just realized this is in the win98 forum. The post I made before is irrelevant in this case. WinXP has an etc folder in the place I mentioned before, win98 does not. Thought I should post this to avoid some possible confusion over this.

Just a shortcut size 8,192 bytes. I must investigate how the shortcut got on the desktop? Must be a reason?

If it's only a shortcut I see no reason why it can't be deleted. As to how it got there, I don't know. The only thing I can think of is if you were viewing it in windows explorer and happened to right click on it and accidently choose send to>desktop as shortcut or whatever it is it says. If not that, I don't know what to tell you.
