My monitor has thin horizontal lines extending across the top of the screen. The lines currently extend about an inch to an inch and a half down from the top. This has been going on for the last couple of months, and is gradually getting worse. The monitor is a Gateway EV730 CRT type of monitor. My question is whether this is something I can correct, or do I just accept that my monitor is gradually kicking the bucket? It is several years old.

    Hello Bucksone,

It probably is the Monitor - video cards, once they go bad, generally fail within a short period of time. If you can, to make sure it is the Monitor, hook it up to another system.

You can also test the display by using dxdiag:

Start > run > type dxdiag > ok. Use the Display tab.

You can also try changing your display settings to lower the strain on the Monitor: change the refresh rate lower - change the dpi setting lower.

    Regards - Charles
